[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A resident representative who reported external children playing in the apartment playground to the police said that the residents' push for his dismissal is "actually good because it promotes the apartment."
On the 12th, according to an apartment in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, residents held an emergency countermeasure meeting at the management office the day before to discuss the dismissal procedure of resident representative A and the production of related banners.
Earlier, on the 12th of last month, A reported five children playing in the apartment complex playground to the police for property damage and took them to the management office. However, it was found that there was no evidence that the children had damaged the playground equipment at that time.
Eventually, the children's parents filed a complaint with the police against A for charges of intimidation and confinement, and regarding this, A stated that he was not at fault and had no intention of stepping down voluntarily.
In an interview with MBC, A said, "(Even if) 100 banners demanding my resignation are hung, it doesn't matter at all," adding, "It's great because it promotes our apartment. I think it’s good publicity."
Regarding his resignation as resident representative, he said, "I am not quitting on my own. It should be handled according to the regulations," effectively refusing to step down.
This incident became known through a post on the Blue House's public petition board on the 4th. The petitioner revealed that A detained five elementary school students playing in the playground at the apartment management office and reported them to the police.
The petitioner said, "When I rushed over, the first thing I saw was five elementary school students, including my child, being held in the management office," and "The five children shed thick tears like chicken droppings every time they saw their parents who arrived after being contacted."
He continued, saying that A selectively detained children from other areas in the management office and reported them to the police for damaging playground equipment, adding, "A’s logic is that children from other areas cannot play in our apartment. Even watching the CCTV, there was no evidence that the children damaged the equipment," he said, expressing disbelief.
A post written by a child who was reported while playing in the playground at the time was also revealed. The child wrote, "Suddenly, an old man asked where I lived, and when I said 'I live in XX,' he said, 'Do you know that if you come to someone else’s playground in XX, you’re a thief?'"
He added, "The old man called me this and that and said I would grow up to be a very bad big thief," and "When my friend’s mother and older brother came, he told them to properly educate their child. The old man called the police officer, and I was very scared and thought it was a big problem."
