[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] A touching story is spreading as residents come together after a security guard in his 60s, who has been protecting an apartment in Incheon for 23 years, collapsed due to health deterioration while on duty.
According to an apartment in Namdong-gu, Incheon, a fundraising notice was posted in Building 101 of the apartment on the 1st of this month.
The posted notice stated, "A security guard who has worked hard for a long time for our apartment collapsed suddenly due to a stroke while on duty on October 12 and is currently hospitalized," and added, "We would like to gather small acts of kindness to offer hope, so we are asking for everyone's support through this notice."
This was a voluntary movement by the residents for Mr. A (69), the security guard who has been working at this apartment since 1998, for 23 years.
Mr. A collapsed from a stroke around 5 a.m. on the 12th of last month while working the early morning shift. When Mr. A, who worked in the same spot every day, was not seen, the management office received numerous calls from residents asking about his well-being.
The fundraising campaign was initially scheduled for one week from the 1st to the 7th, but with participation from three other apartment buildings besides Building 101, the period was extended until this day. Approximately 4 million KRW worth of donations were collected.
A management office official said, "The residents voluntarily organized the fundraising," and added, "The collected amount will be sorted out soon and delivered to the security guard."
