[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the 10th (local time) urged the Myanmar military junta, which has been in power for 10 months following a coup, to immediately cease violence.

According to foreign media, the UNSC issued a statement on the day saying, "Security Council member states express deep concern over the violent incidents occurring throughout Myanmar."

The Security Council also stated, "COVID-19 vaccines must be distributed safely and without interference from the military junta so that everyone can be vaccinated," adding, "Humanitarian access is necessary for those in need."

AFP news agency reported, citing a spokesperson from the Arakan Army (AA), that the Myanmar military and the AA clashed for the first time since the February coup.

The spokesperson said, "The clash occurred as the Myanmar military entered AA territory. The exact number of casualties is currently unknown."

After the coup, as opposition from other ethnic minority armed groups increased, the Myanmar military junta reached a kind of reconciliation agreement by removing the AA from the military's list of terrorist organizations.
