Studio Santa Claus' Distributed Film 'Gangneung' Tops Box Office

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Studio Santa Claus announced on the 11th that the crime action noir film Gangneung, distributed by the company, ranked first in the box office among films released on the same day.

This box office achievement marks the first Korean film released after the implementation of the With-Corona policy, competing alongside Marvel Studios' new release Eternals, and is expected to lead the success of upcoming Korean films.

The film Gangneung stars Yoo Oh-sung and Jang Hyuk, depicting the ambitions, conspiracies, and betrayals among different organizations surrounding the construction of the largest resort in Gangneung.

Gangneung, a crime action noir film that evokes romance in a rough era, is receiving praise as the essence of traditional Korean crime action cinema, following the lineage of classics such as Friend, Sunflower, and New World, rekindling nostalgia for the Korean noir genre with its classic charm.

A representative from Studio Santa Claus stated, "Thanks to the audience's expectations, the film Gangneung, distributed by our company, achieved the remarkable feat of ranking first in the box office among films released simultaneously on its opening day. With the benefits of the With-Corona policy and this positive signal, we expect it to become a representative hit in theaters during the With-Corona period through its dramatic direction and emotional elements."

Meanwhile, the film Gangneung, distributed by Studio Santa Claus, was released on the 10th and is currently being screened nationwide to great acclaim.
