Samsung, SK, LG, Doosan, and Others Recognized for Technology and Product Innovation Achievements

[Asia Economy Reporters Hyewon Kim, Heungsun Kim, Hyunjin Jung] At CES 2022, the world's largest IT and home appliance exhibition held offline for the first time in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic, Korean companies including Samsung Electronics swept the 'Innovation Awards.' Han Jong-hee, President of Samsung Electronics and Head of the Visual Display Business Division, will deliver the keynote speech under the theme "Age of Togetherness," which embodies the value that "technology should exist for humanity and the planet."
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizer of CES, announced the official schedule for CES 2022 on the 10th (local time), including the Innovation Award-winning products and technologies in 27 categories and companies participating in Media Day.

Samsung Electronics won a total of 43 Innovation Awards: 21 in visual displays, 7 in home appliances, 11 in mobile, and 4 in semiconductors. Notably, it received 4 Best Innovation Awards (3 in visual displays, 1 in mobile), which are given to the most innovative products or technologies in the industry.
In particular, the TV in the visual display category won the Best Innovation Award for the 11th consecutive year. This recognition reflects the technological excellence of the upcoming 2022 TV models, a new lifestyle TV platform, and gaming monitors. In the mobile category, the recently released 'Galaxy Z Flip3 Bespoke Edition,' which has made a significant impact in the market, received the Best Innovation Award.
LG Electronics, focusing mainly on home appliances, received a total of 24 CES Innovation Awards. The list includes lifestyle home appliances such as the plant-based 'LG Tiun' and the LG Objet Collection ice water purifier refrigerator, innovative TVs including next year’s LG OLED TV, and IT products that enhance business efficiency such as the multi-purpose screen LG One Quick. Among these, LG OLED TV has won CES Innovation Awards for 10 consecutive years since its first release in 2013.
From the SK Group, SK On received an Innovation Award for the world's first developed 'NCM9 battery.' This battery contains about 90% nickel among nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and is scheduled to be installed in the F-150 Lightning, the first electric version of Ford’s pickup truck F-150, launching next year.
Doosan won Innovation Awards for seven products and technologies, including the hydrogen fuel cell system 'TriGen,' plastic waste hydrogenation technology, solar power plant inspection solutions using hydrogen drones, the vertical takeoff and landing fixed-wing hydrogen drone 'DJ25,' the fully electric loader 'T7X,' Patterned Flat Cable (PFC), and camera robots.

CES 2022, scheduled to be held from January 5 to 8 next year, will resume offline exhibitions for the first time in two years. This year’s event was held online only due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Major companies and affiliates, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, SK Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, and Doosan Group, have either confirmed participation or are finalizing detailed plans. The event is expected to showcase various new technologies such as digital health, food technology, automotive electronics, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), gaming, and smart homes in the post-COVID era.
Samsung Electronics announced that President Han will deliver the keynote speech on January 4, ahead of the opening. At this event, he plans to introduce Samsung Electronics’ multifaceted efforts to contribute to building a sustainable planet and emphasize the importance of everyone participating in minimizing climate change in their respective roles. He will also showcase Samsung’s innovative technologies that help individuals enjoy a richer daily life through personalized services and interconnected experiences.
Gary Shapiro, CEO of CTA, the organizer of CES, said, "Since early 2020, the way people live has undergone significant changes," and added, "Technology solves people’s problems and connects them." He further stated, "We look forward to hearing President Han’s vision on how Samsung Electronics’ innovative technologies can change the world through his keynote speech."
