[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Dong-Eui Science University has established a university judo team, a rare move for a junior college.

On the 11th, Dong-Eui Science University announced that it had founded a women's judo team on the 10th to promote sports development in the Busan area and to discover and nurture promising judo athletes.

The founding ceremony was attended by ▲ Dong-Eui Science University President Kim Young-do, Sports Promotion Group Director Park Cheol-woo, Police Administration Department Head Lee Byung-gyu, inaugural coach Ok Kyung-sook ▲ Busan Sports Council Vice Chairman Park Ga-seo ▲ Busan Port Security Corporation President Lee Sang-bung ▲ Busan Autonomous Police Committee Secretary General Park No-myeon ▲ Korea Judo Federation Vice President Jung Soo-beom ▲ Busan Judo Association Vice President Lee Si-woo ▲ Geoje City Judo Association Chairman Lim Joon-young, among others.

The ceremony proceeded in the order of ▲ welcome speech by the president of Dong-Eui Science University ▲ congratulatory speech by the vice chairman of Busan Sports Council ▲ proclamation of the establishment of the women's judo team and student oath-taking ceremony ▲ plaque unveiling ceremony.

The Busan Sports Council provided a founding support fund for the Dong-Eui Science University women's judo team.

Starting from the 2022 academic year early admission, Dong-Eui Science University will recruit 10 female judo athletes through its own university standard screening for the Police Security Administration Department.

Dong-Eui Science University plans to provide systematic education and training for high school graduate athletes not only to advance to corporate teams or national teams but also in fields they wish to pursue.

Martial arts certifications can add up to 4 extra points in the police officer recruitment exam, which is advantageous for fostering female police personnel.

Coach Ok Kyung-sook is a former athlete who won the bronze medal, the first Korean woman to do so, at the 1986 4th World Women's Judo Championships.

After retirement, she served as a coach for the Busan Buk-gu Office and Busan Jeonbo University judo teams and was the inaugural instructor at the Geoje City Judo Center.

Coach Ok Kyung-sook said, "I will faithfully play a foundational role in making Busan a mecca for women's judo once again."

President Kim Young-do stated, "We will discover and nurture talent in the judo field, providing them with opportunities to take a new leap on bigger stages and also strive to revitalize community sports in the local society."
