[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] In the heart of Byeolbitnaerimcheon in Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee), a cultural and artistic platform has been established where exhibitions and performances take place, local artists can freely engage in creative activities, and anyone can enjoy cultural life and communicate with each other.
Located at Bonglimgyo Bridge on Byeolbitnaerimcheon, ‘Gwancheon-ro Cultural Platform S1472’ is a resident-centered complex cultural space composed of a book caf?, exhibition space, creative studios, and rest areas, where anyone can share culture in harmony with nature.
On the 10th, the district held an opening ceremony with a small number of attendees to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which was broadcast live online via the Gwanak Cultural Foundation TV YouTube channel.
Attending the opening ceremony, Gwanak-gu Mayor Park Junhee said, “I am very pleased that ‘Gwancheon-ro Cultural Platform S1472,’ which will become a new landmark of Gwanak, has opened its doors wide. It is a great achievement that resolves the long-standing wish of Gwanak residents to expand cultural infrastructure, and at the same time, it holds very important significance as a cornerstone for the district to leap forward as the cultural center representing the southwestern region of Seoul.”
‘Gwancheon-ro Cultural Platform S1472’ is a two-story building with an area of 252.8㎡, featuring diverse spaces such as ▲Star Lounge, which operates cultural and artistic programs including performances, education, and exhibitions; ▲Signature Lounge, which offers exhibition programs and resting spaces using beam projectors and digital signage; and ▲Artist Room, which supports creative spaces for local artists.
The district operates various programs focusing on three areas: cultural arts, revitalization of local commercial districts, and resident participation, including exhibitions, performances, citizen participation, and local commercial district activation.
It provides opportunities for residents to participate in culture and arts through projects such as the ‘Performance and Exhibition Support Project,’ which discovers emerging artists and offers performance and exhibition opportunities to local artists, and the ‘Artist Creation Support Project,’ which collaborates with traditional market merchant associations to carry out artistic activities.
Additionally, as a city ranked first nationwide with a youth population ratio of 40.6%, ‘Gwancheon-ro Cultural Platform S1472’ is designed as a cultural space where the MZ generation can freely express their creativity and talents, focusing on discovering and nurturing young and emerging artists.
In particular, local artists will directly participate and collaborate with residents, merchants, and organizations active in the region to mutually enhance their capabilities, utilizing this as a new growth engine for the local economy by simultaneously developing regional cultural capacity and the local economy.
Park Jungja, director of the Gwanak Cultural Foundation, stated, “Through S1472, a resident-centered complex cultural space, I hope Gwanak-gu becomes a cultural and artistic hub where residents can enjoy and communicate through culture and arts. I also look forward to it becoming a beloved resting place for residents and a representative tourist destination of Seoul in the new cultural tourism belt Byeolbitnaerimcheon, which embraces a beautiful ecosystem and culture.”
In the future, the district plans to further strengthen the competitiveness of Byeolbitnaerimcheon by creating various tangible and intangible values and establish ‘Gwancheon-ro Cultural Platform S1472’ as a representative attraction of Gwanak-gu alongside the Sillim Station area.
