Kia, Ford, BMW and 2 Other Companies Recall 135,577 Vehicles Across 9 Models


[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 11th that a total of 135,577 vehicles across 9 models manufactured or imported and sold by Kia Corporation, Ford Sales Service Korea Ltd., BMW Korea Ltd., Hanbul Motors Ltd., and Daejeon Machinery Industry Ltd. have been found to have manufacturing defects and will undergo voluntary corrective actions (recalls).


A total of 133,137 vehicles of 2 models, including the Carnival, manufactured and sold by Kia Corporation, were found to have a possibility of fire due to coolant leakage caused by inadequate design of the hose connection of the auxiliary coolant pump, which could cause a short circuit in the starter motor.


A total of 2,018 Aviator vehicles imported and sold by Ford Sales Service Korea Ltd. were found to have a risk of fire caused by the battery cable not being properly secured, which could come into contact with the wheel attached to the air conditioner compressor, resulting in an internal short circuit.


A total of 197 BMW iX xDrive40 vehicles of 2 models imported (before sale) by BMW Korea Ltd. were found to have a possibility of injury to users due to the electric trunk closing even with slight external force such as snow accumulation, caused by a software error in the electric trunk control device.


A total of 61 DS7 Crossback 2.0 BlueHDi vehicles of 2 models imported and sold (including before sale) by Hanbul Motors Ltd. were found to have a possibility that the sharp edge of the internal fixing plate of the upper handle could be exposed when the rear seat side airbag deploys.


A total of 164 motorcycles of 2 models, including the Kawasaki W800, imported and sold by Daejeon Machinery Industry Ltd. were found to have a design defect in the tightening parts connecting the engine and exhaust pipe, which could loosen and detach due to vehicle vibrations, potentially compromising the safety of following vehicles.
