[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Dongseo University is co-hosting a workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI), immersive content, and the metaverse with the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency (BIPA) and the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences (NIMS).
The AI Metaverse Workshop, held at 10:30 a.m. on the 11th, will feature an opening address by Dongseo University President Jang Je-guk, a video congratulatory message from Minister Lim Hye-sook of the Ministry of Science and ICT, a congratulatory speech by Busan Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Kim Yoon-il, and a keynote lecture titled "ETRI AI Execution Strategy" by Park Jong-hyun, Deputy Director of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), a national comprehensive intelligence research institution.
At 1 p.m., the main session will include special lectures such as "Current Status and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence: For Trustworthy AI" by Park Hyun-je, Director of the Software Policy Research Institute (SPRI); "Surviving the 4th Industrial Revolution through Mathematics" by Kim Hyun-min, Director of the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences (NIMS); "KT XR Technology" by Im Mi-sook, Executive Director of KT Convergence Technology Institute; and "Will the Metaverse Lead to Meta-Engineering through Technical (Industrial) Mathematics? Questions, Challenges, and Clear Limitations" by Antonio Delgado, Director of the non-profit German Engineering Research and Development Center (LSTME Busan).
In the expert session, Professor Santoso Markus from the University of Florida, USA, will present on "Immersive Experience Technology for Dental Education," and Professor Han Dong from Tianjin University, China, will speak on "Digital Information and the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage."
Following these, presentations will continue with Professor Yoon Sang-min from Kookmin University, Dr. Son Uk-ho from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Dean Lim Kok Yoong from Multimedia University, Malaysia.
At the end of the program, the opening ceremony for the Korea-ASEAN Metaverse Boost Camp, conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency (BIPA), will take place.
The Korea-ASEAN Metaverse Boost Camp involves 19 Korean university students and 40 university students from four ASEAN countries including Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Participating students will receive education programs on ICT convergence technologies such as Extended Reality (XR), the metaverse, and AI until the end of December.
The camp is mainly conducted online, featuring weekly special lectures, brainstorming meetings among trainees, and an education curriculum focused on XR projects.
At the end of the training, Korea-ASEAN university students will connect to the metaverse to present their final project results and engage in communication.
Some ASEAN participants are expected to be invited to Busan as members of the 2nd Boost Camp in 2022.
Professor Lee Byung-guk of Dongseo University, who prepared the program, said, "We will continue to hold new programs to serve as a substantial platform for domestic and international academic exchanges."
