North Korea Reiterates at the UN that UN Command is Merely a US Military Force

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] North Korea has once again demanded at the United Nations that the United Nations Command in South Korea be disbanded.

According to the UN website on the 9th, Kim In-cheol, First Secretary of the North Korean Mission to the UN, stated at the 6th Committee meeting of the 76th UN General Assembly on the 4th, “The abnormal situation where individual countries abuse the name of the UN for political and military purposes must be corrected without delay,” adding, “The UN Command is merely a US military force unrelated to the UN.”

Secretary Kim argued, “The problem is that this illegal and false organization supports the US’s hostile policy toward North Korea and its Asian strategy under the name of the UN, which is a disgrace to the UN and contrary to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.”

He continued, “It is widely known that the US troops stationed in South Korea, hiding behind the name of the UN Command, are the main cause of escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula and obstructing inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation through various annual military exercises.”

He criticized, “Recently, there were simultaneous missile launches in both North and South Korea, as well as hypersonic projectile test launches by several countries including North Korea and the United States. However, only North Korea’s launches were condemned as threats to international peace by the UN Security Council.”

Regarding the US decision to transfer nuclear-powered submarine technology to Australia, he accused, “The United States, while verbally advocating for strengthening the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, has revealed its true nature and double standards as the leader of nuclear proliferation.”

Earlier, Kim Song, North Korea’s ambassador to the UN, also called for the immediate disbandment of the UN Command at the 4th Committee on the 27th of last month.
