[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] To celebrate the kimjang season, Pulmuone has launched a DIY kit that allows children to make ‘children’s kimchi’ at home by themselves.
On the 9th, Pulmuone Foods announced the release of the ‘Kids Kimchi DIY KIT,’ which enables children who will carry on our kimchi culture to enjoyably experience the traditional Korean kimjang culture with their families.
The ‘Kids Kimchi DIY KIT’ consists of salted napa cabbage (2kg), seasoning paste (1kg), and hygienic gloves for children. Without the need to salt and rinse the cabbage separately or prepare the seasoning paste, children can complete kimchi suited to their taste by mixing the seasoning into each leaf of the salted cabbage, from the small leaves to the large ones.
Since it is kimchi for children, ten ingredients including cabbage, salt, and red pepper powder are carefully selected from trusted domestic sources. The red pepper powder is mild to reduce spiciness so that children can eat it without burden. Additionally, sweet tomatoes grown under Mediterranean sunlight are added to provide a sweet flavor, allowing children who usually do not eat kimchi well to enjoy it healthily and deliciously.
Considering the environment of the Earth, Pulmuone delivers the ‘Kids Kimchi DIY KIT’ in a reusable cooler bag. The cooler bag features characters from the popular Netflix animation ‘Bread Barbershop’ on the front to increase familiarity. Bread Barbershop is a domestic animation that recently ranked in the Top 10 TV shows on Netflix in the United States and Australia and currently has about 1.04 million subscribers on YouTube.
Im Hyun-mi, PM of the Kimchi Business Division at Pulmuone Foods, said, “We launched the ‘Kids Kimchi DIY KIT’ with the hope that children who will carry on our kimchi culture will develop interest in and become familiar with kimchi, which represents Korea. We hope that this kimjang season, families will create meaningful and special memories by making kimchi together with their children using Pulmuone’s ‘Kids Kimchi DIY KIT’ at home.”
Meanwhile, Pulmuone operates ‘Museum Kimchikan,’ Korea’s first kimchi museum, leading efforts to inherit and develop Korean kimchi and kimjang culture. It runs a free experience program for children called ‘Children’s Kimchi School,’ where they can learn about kimchi and make it themselves. Recently, it has also been conducting non-face-to-face online classes called ‘Online Children’s Kimchi School’ to help children easily and enjoyably become familiar with kimchi even at home.
