"Foldable Phones Account for 12% of Samsung Smartphone Sales in the US This Year"

Counterpoint Research "Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 Effect... Driving 9% Increase in Total Sales"

"Foldable Phones Account for 12% of Samsung Smartphone Sales in the US This Year" Trend of Samsung's Foldable Smartphone Sales Share in the United States

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] This year, the proportion of foldable phones in Samsung Electronics' sales in the U.S. smartphone market has exceeded 10%.

According to the weekly U.S. smartphone sales report by market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 8th, Samsung Electronics' foldable phone sales share in the U.S. surged from 0.6% last year to 12% this year. This is based on a comparison of sales during the 8 weeks after Samsung launched foldable phones last year and this year.

Counterpoint Research analyzed that the popularity of this year's released 'Galaxy Z Fold3' and 'Galaxy Z Flip3' drove an increase in Samsung Electronics' overall smartphone sales. In fact, during the 8 weeks following the release of these products, Samsung's total smartphone sales in the U.S. increased by about 9% compared to the similar period last year when foldable phones were launched.

Im Su-jeong, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, said, "The performance of the Z Fold and Flip series, introduced as a strategy to secure dominance in the premium market, has been successful so far," adding, "It dispelled evaluations of a lack of differentiation from existing models and timely responded to consumer demands expecting new form factors."

Researcher Im also stated, "To completely replace the Galaxy Note series in terms of sales and profitability and maintain market dominance, sales need to be further increased," adding, "This is fully achievable through a double form factor strategy targeting both young and middle-aged consumers with flip and fold types, along with improved product completeness."
