"I Can Now Speak Out"... Park Su-young Says "The Primary Election Method Must Change Next Time" [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Park Soo-young, a member of the People Power Party, expressed on the 6th that a ‘You come out’ style debate should be arranged regarding the party’s primary election. Instead of a debate like Bongsunga Academy where many candidates cannot even speak for a few minutes, an opportunity should be provided for 1:1 debates between candidates.

On the same day, Park shared his opinion on the primary election method through social media (SNS), saying, "Now I can speak."

He said, "I worked as a member of the primary election preparation committee for selecting the presidential candidate," adding, "I attended the committee three times before resigning midway, and I made two proposals that were not accepted. Fortunately, this primary ended well, but the next primary should take this as a lesson."

Park mentioned, "Initially, there were 14 candidates, and I opposed vision presentations and group debates," explaining, "I judged that it would be boring and would not attract attention."

Instead, he proposed a method where candidates draw numbers from 1 to 14, and the candidate who drew number 1 picks another candidate to have a one-hour debate with. He explained, "This is the so-called ‘You come out’ style, where the two candidates debate face-to-face without predetermined questions or topics."

The candidate with the first choice selects a specific opponent for a one-hour debate, and then the next candidate with the choice picks another candidate to debate.

Park said, "If this method is done seven times, everyone can debate once, and the public watching can judge who the excellent candidate is," adding, "Let’s try the ‘You come out’ method once in five years."

He also advocated for the introduction of a reverse selection prevention clause. He stated, "From the first day of the primary preparation committee, I insisted on preventing reverse selection, but it was not accepted," and claimed, "Many of the members who worked with me at the time did not understand how persistent the Daegae-moon faction is and judged quite naively." He added, "Having fought directly against Daegae-moon and the Finger Revolution Army, I saw that they would do anything for reverse selection, and this almost became a reality this time. In five years, we must definitely include a reverse selection prevention clause."
