Completion of a Giant Tile Mural Measuring 18m Wide by 3m High in Chungmu-dong, Yeosu-si
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] On the 2nd, GS Caltex held an unveiling ceremony for a tile mural created to study and experience the local history of Yeosu children at the mural street in Chungmu-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do.
The tile mural unveiled that day is a 6m wide and 3m high work made of 200 tiles painted by about 200 children from 10 children's centers in the Yeosu area who participated in the "2021 GS Caltex Hope Energy Classroom Big Rock Face History Experience" program, depicting the historical sites of the Yeosu region.
With this, a giant mural measuring 18m wide and 3m high was completed, attached to the mural created in 2019.
The Big Rock Face History Experience program, which has continued for four years from 2017 to this year for historical experience and exploration activities to establish a local history museum, involved about 1,200 children from 40 local children's centers in Yeosu. Alongside local history education, the program included visits to representative historical sites in Yeosu such as prehistoric sites, mountain fortresses and old castle sites, Jinnamgwan, Imjin War relics, and Heungguksa Temple.
This year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, local history narrators participated, and regional historical video materials were used as teaching materials. The program was composed of small-scale video education by each children's center and making history experience kits. As a result of the program, a second giant mural was created following the mural completed in 2018, concluding the four-year journey.
A GS Caltex official said, "We are grateful that the local history exploration program conducted over the past four years to foster children's pride in Yeosu's history has achieved great results and ended successfully. Next year, we will continue to discover and operate new and beneficial quality programs so that local children can grow up with dreams and hopes in a right and healthy way."
Meanwhile, the GS Caltex Hope Energy Classroom is a community contribution activity by GS Caltex that has been ongoing for 12 years since 2010, providing various experiential education to help children, the future leaders, cultivate sound dreams and visions.
