This tournament, the first nationwide event held in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, was organized to enhance the image of Gwangju as a leading city in the 4th industrial revolution, to revitalize the drone content industry, and to spread leisure culture.

The soccer tournament will be operated in three leagues: Division 1 and Division 2 with 8 teams each, and Division 3 with 16 teams, with a total of 32 drone soccer teams participating from across the country including Gwangju in Gyeonggi-do, Daejeon, Jeonju, Mokpo, and Pohang.

On the first day of the competition, the 6th, the opening ceremony will be held along with performances such as racing drones and drone swarm flights, and matches for Division 1 and 2 teams will take place. On the 7th, Division 3 league matches will be held.

Awards will be given to the teams placing 1st to 4th in each league, including the Buk-gu Mayor's Award, trophies, and prize money.

Meanwhile, since the 7th local government term, Buk-gu has focused on normalizing drone culture by establishing the Buk-gu Drone Flight Practice Field in the Gwangju Citizens' Forest area in Daechon-dong, designating the first 'Drone National Certification On-demand Practical Test Site' in a special/metropolitan city nationwide, and being the only 'Drone Park' in the Honam region.

Additionally, through the designation of a special drone free zone and selection as a drone demonstration city, Buk-gu is actively supporting the demonstration of excellent technologies and commercialization models of local drone companies.

Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, "I hope drone enthusiasts, who have been restrained due to COVID-19, will fully demonstrate their skills and create joyful memories at this tournament," and added, "We will continue to develop Buk-gu as a drone-specialized city through fostering the drone industry and spreading leisure culture."
