'Seoul World Cup Stadium Auxiliary Field' to Become Venue for Amateur Soccer League

Replacing 20-Year-Old Facilities and Gaining a New Look... Amateur Soccer League to Be Held, Open to Citizens from Year-End

'Seoul World Cup Stadium Auxiliary Field' to Become Venue for Amateur Soccer League

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Facilities Corporation announced that it has completed the facility improvements of the auxiliary stadium within the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo-gu and will begin a pilot operation from the 2nd. The corporation replaced the ground with artificial turf and completed comprehensive renovations including lighting towers, electronic scoreboards, and player waiting rooms, transforming it into a new venue capable of hosting amateur football leagues.

The auxiliary stadium within the Seoul World Cup Stadium was constructed in 2001 with a natural grass field and has served as a community sports venue for over 20 years. It entered a rest period from April for renovation work and is now reopening for pilot operation.

The corporation replaced the old natural grass with top-quality artificial turf. It is currently undergoing the “K League Artificial Turf Ground Certification” process by the Korea Professional Football League, having completed ground field tests and on-site inspections. This is to confirm and ensure that the artificial turf ground environment is optimal for players to showcase their skills.

New lighting towers, electronic scoreboards, and match operation speakers were installed. The lighting towers use high-efficiency LED lights, with a total of 64 lights installed across four locations, allowing games to be played comfortably at night. A high-resolution electronic scoreboard measuring 7.68 meters wide and 4.1 meters high, along with two match operation speakers, were also installed. Additionally, locker rooms, restrooms, and the broadcasting room were renovated, and the player waiting area was expanded to provide a comfortable environment for all participants in the matches.

The corporation expects that the full renovation of the auxiliary stadium facilities will contribute to the revitalization of amateur leagues such as middle and high school leagues and the K5 to K7 leagues.

After the pilot operation starting on the 2nd, the corporation plans to open the auxiliary stadium for general public use through reservations from December this year or January next year.

Director Cho Sung-il said, “This facility improvement of the auxiliary stadium will be very welcome news for amateur football players and football enthusiasts,” adding, “We will continuously monitor and improve the facilities by listening to users’ feedback to provide the best possible environment.”
