[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A Filipino actor who appeared in the Netflix drama 'Squid Game' has revealed his experience of racial discrimination in Korea.
On the 24th, the YouTube channel 'Asian Boss' released an interview video with Christian Lagahil, who played contestant number 276 in the drama 'Squid Game'. In the video, Lagahil introduced himself by saying, "I am an explorer and adventurer, a marketing consultant, and a data analyst," adding, "I act part-time whenever I have time."
He continued, "I have participated in several projects in Korea, and my biggest role was in tvN's 'Cheongil Electronics Miss Lee'," adding, "My face was even on the poster. It was amazing."
When asked about racial discrimination he experienced in Korea, Lagahil said, "I was riding a village bus when a woman who looked to be in her 50s glared at me," and "A few minutes later, something hit my face?it was a cabbage."
He added, "When I was hit by the cabbage, my glasses fell to the floor. I picked them up to wear them again, but they were already broken," and "I couldn't see anything and was confused. I asked why she threw it at me, and I think she didn't like that I was on the bus. Because I am not Korean," he lamented.
He said, "What hurt me was that no one cared about me," adding, "No one helped me."
When the host asked, "What happened afterward?" Lagahil replied, "I got off the bus, but I couldn't take a taxi either," and "At that time, I couldn't speak Korean well and couldn't do anything. I couldn't understand it, and I cried."
Meanwhile, the YouTube channel 'Asian Boss' is based in Korea and delivers news related to Asia. With 3.27 million subscribers, Lagahil's interview has attracted significant attention, nearing 250,000 views as of the 1st.
