[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 1st that it has been selected as an implementing agency for the 'Seoul Delivery Workers Safety Education' project, together with the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), the Korea Platform Freelancer Labor Mutual Aid Association, and the Korea Safety Care Service Association.

This project was selected through a consortium formed by various organizations including the Korea Road Traffic Authority under the leadership of the FKTU, in response to a public offering by Seoul City aimed at preventing the recent surge in two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents. From the 6th to the 20th of this month, safety education will be provided to up to 500 delivery workers in the Seoul area every weekend.

The Korea Road Traffic Authority plans to support the formation of safe driving habits among delivery workers by providing practical training facilities during weekends when the four driver’s license test centers in Seoul (Gangnam, Dobong, Gangseo, and Seobu) are not operating.

Im Ui-cheol, Director of Education Operations at the Korea Road Traffic Authority, stated, "As the delivery market has rapidly grown due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents have also increased, raising social concern. We will continue to cooperate with various organizations to foster traffic safety awareness among delivery workers and to create a safe two-wheeled vehicle service ecosystem."
