Gyeonggi Office of Education Allocates 19.1959 Trillion Won Budget for Next Year... Review Scheduled for 2nd of Next Month


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has prepared a special account budget for Gyeonggi Province's education revenue and expenditure for next year amounting to 19.1959 trillion KRW. This is an increase of 3.27 trillion KRW (17.0%) compared to this year's original budget and 171.9 billion KRW (0.8%) compared to the final budget reflecting the third supplementary budget this year.


The Gyeonggi Office of Education analyzed that the increase in revenue was due to improved tax revenue conditions this year following the deterioration caused by the COVID-19 pandemic last year.


The original budget for next year was prepared with a focus on strengthening educational welfare to minimize the decline in academic achievement caused by COVID-19.


By project, a total of 2.3389 trillion KRW will be invested, including ▲ support for curriculum supplementation programs 122.5 billion KRW ▲ basic academic skills guarantee support (such as Dudream Schools) 17.9 billion KRW ▲ operation and facility expansion of elementary after-school care classrooms 41.9 billion KRW ▲ free after-school course vouchers for children from low-income families 15.8 billion KRW ▲ treatment and after-school support for students with disabilities 21.3 billion KRW ▲ support for the Nuri Curriculum 1.0169 trillion KRW ▲ free school meals 1.0453 trillion KRW.


Additionally, 72 billion KRW has been allocated for infrastructure development in preparation for the full implementation of the high school credit system in the 2025 academic year, including space creation, pilot school operation, and operation of joint online and offline curricula.


In the field of curriculum diversification projects, a total of 31.1 billion KRW has been reflected, including student-led project experiential learning 1.3 billion KRW, experiential learning in eight major fields 1.7 billion KRW, elementary survival swimming education 12.4 billion KRW, sports club support 7.4 billion KRW, and establishment and operation of future schools 8.3 billion KRW.


Furthermore, a total of 486.7 billion KRW has been allocated for creating a foundation for future education, including Green Smart Future Schools 203.4 billion KRW, school space innovation projects 38.8 billion KRW, distribution of school smart devices 162.9 billion KRW, expansion of school wireless infrastructure 3.2 billion KRW, and operation of the Gyeonggi SW·AI Education Support Center 78.4 billion KRW.


The original budget for next year will be reviewed at the regular session of the Provincial Council held on the 2nd of next month.
