[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University swept the major awards at the video contest organized by Daejeon City. They won the grand prize for the third consecutive year.

On the 28th, Dongseo University announced that works by current students and graduates of the Department of Video Animation and Video VFX won one grand prize, two excellence awards, and two encouragement awards at the 2021 Visual Art-Tech Contest.

They achieved the remarkable feat of winning the top grand prize for three consecutive years.

The Daejeon Visual Art-Tech Contest is an annual competition hosted by Daejeon City and the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, selecting works in fields such as CG·VFX, special filming, special makeup·art, and props.

The event seeks future “Visual Art-Technicians” who demonstrate talent and imagination to create dazzling visual effects.

Special video works submitted in September underwent expert evaluation, and 12 were selected as finalists. The winners were announced based on combined online voting and expert judging.

The work “Hero,” produced by students Kang Sung-min (team leader), Jung Seul-bin, Kim Hye-ri, and Shin Young-min from the Department of Video Animation, won the grand prize and received a cash prize of 5 million KRW.

The works “To Heaven,” led by team leader Kim Jin-sol with Jung Hee-jin, Hyun Kyung-min, Lim Ji-ah, and Kim Min-seong, and “In The World,” led by Oh Young-joo with Kim Ga-young, Kim Ga-hee, and Park Chae-ri, jointly won the excellence award and received 1 million KRW each.

The works “Snowly Feeling,” led by team leader Park Hyun-joo with Kim Yoo-jin, Jo Soo-min, Jeon Young-bin, and Jung Seung-ji, and “Eoseowa!” by student Kim Dong-ik, jointly won the encouragement award and received 500,000 KRW each.

All works, including the grand prize winner, are results of classes conducted by the Department of Video Animation through the LINC+ Project Group’s modular capstone design support program.

The grand prize work “Hero” is evaluated as expressing the dream and growth of a boy who wants to become a hero through video beauty and realistic visual effects in a short video.

The judges noted that this year’s work stood out for its outstanding realistic computer graphics expression and directing skills.

Kang Sung-min said, “I am happy that the result of all team members coming together during the difficult times of COVID-19 has been rewarded,” and added, “I will grow into a great artist.”

Professor Kim Si-hyun, the supervising professor, introduced the achievement as “the result of practical education accomplished by the active support of the LINC+ Project Group’s modular capstone class and the efforts of video animation students and professors.”
