Jindo-gun, Public and Private Sectors Join Forces to Prevent Suicide

Police Station and Education Support Office Attend Suicide Prevention Measures Council Meeting

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do recently held a Suicide Prevention Measures Council to establish a community cooperation network for suicide prevention.

On the 28th, according to the county, various institutions including Jindo County Office, the Office of Education, the police station, and the 119 Safety Center participated to conduct presentations and open discussions on suicide prevention measures and roles.

Jeong Jong-sam, Education Officer (Jindo Office of Education), and Choi Mi-kyung, Team Leader (Mental Health Team, Jindo County Health Center) participated as discussants, engaging in a heated debate on accurate assessment and countermeasures for youth suicide, adult depression, and healthy leisure activities.

In response to recent consecutive suicide incidents among students and adults in the area, Jindo County Office led discussions on measures addressing the main causes of suicide to prevent occurrences and ensure the safety of residents.

The Suicide Prevention Measures Council plans to carry out various projects such as suicide prevention publicity, early detection and intervention of high-risk groups, crisis management and follow-up for suicide attempters, and suicide prevention campaigns to prevent suicide in the future.

A representative from the Jindo County Safety Life Support Division stated, “The interest of all residents is necessary for suicide prevention, including not only administrative agencies but also local medical and welfare institutions, religious organizations, and volunteer groups.”
