Expansion of Temporary Screening Clinics, Strengthening Epidemiological Investigations, Vaccination, and Analysis of Voluntary Citizen Participation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Recently, the incidence rate of COVID-19 in Ulsan City has been reported to be the lowest nationwide.
Ulsan City and health authorities cite the expansion of temporary screening clinics, strengthened epidemiological investigations, increased vaccination completion rates, and participation in social distancing as the main reasons.
According to Ulsan City, the COVID-19 outbreak pattern this year showed that the Alpha variant virus was prevalent in April and May, the Delta variant virus was prevalent in August and September, and has been rapidly decreasing since October.
Looking at the monthly confirmed cases this year, from January to March, there were 222, 77, and 144 cases respectively, showing an average of fewer than 10 cases per day.
In April and May, starting from a funeral hall in Busan City, the Alpha variant began to spread, with 772 cases (25.7 cases per day) in April and 649 cases (20.9 cases per day) in May.
In June, the Alpha variant outbreak ended with 246 cases (8.2 cases per day), showing a decrease in confirmed cases.
Afterwards, as the nationwide spread of the Delta variant virus began, 400 cases (12.9 cases per day) were reported in July, and in August and September, the Delta variant virus became prevalent in Ulsan City, with 1,020 cases (32.9 cases per day) in August and 943 cases (31.4 cases per day) in September.
However, as of October 23, the number of confirmed cases in October was 193, averaging 8.4 cases per day, and the weekly incidence rate (weekly average per 100,000 people) was 0.3, showing the lowest incidence rate nationwide.
An official from Ulsan City said, “While various measures by Ulsan City are important, the most crucial factor in reducing confirmed cases is the citizens' awareness of quarantine,” adding, “Considering the relatively low vaccination rate among people in their 20s and 30s, reducing movement in daily life has led to the current low incidence rate.”
