'Good Packaging Project' Expanded to Vietnam
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Orion announced on the 28th that it will reduce the amount of ink used in the packaging materials of products produced and sold in Vietnam. This is an expansion of the 'Good Packaging Project,' which has been primarily promoted domestically since 2014, to global markets such as Vietnam following China.
Orion Vietnam Corporation has started production by lowering the printing density on film packaging materials for five popular local brands, including 'Gosomi' (local name Goute), 'Goraebab' (Marine boy), and 'Jungle boy.' Packaging materials with a printing density of 6 to 8 colors were reduced to 3 colors or less, and those with 3 to 4 colors were reduced to 2 colors or less. The company expects this to save about 88 tons of ink annually, which is anticipated to have a positive effect on environmental protection.
Along with this, the Good Packaging Project, which increases product quantity without raising prices, is also being implemented in Vietnam. Orion is increasing the quantity of Gosomi sold in Vietnam by 10% without changing the price, thereby enhancing consumer satisfaction alongside environmental protection. Since 2017, Orion's China corporation has simplified the film packaging design and reduced printing density for major brands such as 'Choco Pie' (Haoliyou Pie 好麗友派), 'Cutie Pie' (Cutie Pie Q帝派), and 'Swing Chip' (Haoyouqu 好友趣).
As part of its ESG management, Orion has been conducting various eco-friendly activities and has continuously carried out the Good Packaging Project since 2014 to protect the environment by reducing packaging size and ink usage while increasing product quantity to provide more value to consumers. Over the past seven years, profits gained through packaging improvements and cost reduction efforts have been used to increase the quantity of major domestic products such as 'Choco Pie,' 'Poca Chip,' 'Oh! Granola,' and 'Market O Real Brownie' without raising prices. In 2017, Orion jointly developed eco-friendly ink that does not use harmful chemicals with partner companies.
An Orion official stated, “As part of ESG management, Orion is expanding eco-friendly activities not only domestically but also in overseas corporations such as China and Vietnam,” adding, “We will continue to deepen eco-friendly management at the group level to realize global ESG management.”
