[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) won the grand prize in the joint policy category at the ‘2021 6th Korea Healthy City Awards’ hosted by the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership (KHCP).
The regular general meeting of the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership was held at Yangcheon-gu Administrative Complex Town at 1:30 PM on the 27th, attended by 12 award-winning cities including Mapo-gu, 11 executive committee members, and member cities.
On this day, Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, presented Mapo-gu’s ‘5 Million Trees Planting’ project, which won the grand prize in the joint policy category, as an excellent case.
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hoon) won the grand prize, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award, at the 2021 Urban Regeneration Industry Expo held on the 27th in the Masan Marine New City area of Changwon-si.
The Korea Urban Regeneration Industry Expo, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and others, has been held since 2019 to share new directions for urban regeneration, local government achievements, business convergence, and to present public-private urban regeneration business models to expand the private investment base. This year, the expo runs for four days from October 27 to 30.
Gangdong-gu’s outstanding urban regeneration projects, which won the grand prize at this expo, are receiving great attention.
The district plans to continuously promote leading urban regeneration projects that received excellent evaluations at this expo, such as ‘Gucheonmyeon-ro Walkable Street’ and ‘Kangpul Cartoon Street,’ which transformed the landscape of the aging old downtown area, and ‘Angel Workshop Street,’ which contributed to job creation and revitalization of the local economy through youth entrepreneurship support.
Additionally, with a budget of 1 billion KRW secured after being selected for the Seoul Alleyway Regeneration Contest in September, the district will newly implement an alleyway regeneration project around Gucheonmyeon-ro 47-gil in Amsa 1-dong and actively pursue the discovery of regeneration projects for aging alleyways.
At the awards ceremony, Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “The most important thing in urban regeneration is communication with residents,” adding, “We will continuously communicate with residents to ensure that resident-led urban regeneration projects can be promoted.”
No Hyun-song, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, attended the ‘Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation Happiness Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony’ held on the afternoon of the 27th at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of Gangseo Lifelong Learning Center to encourage students with excellent academic performance.
On this day, the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Song Jin-su) selected 30 students with outstanding academic achievements in the region and decided to provide scholarships of 1 million KRW per person.
Mayor No Hyun-song said, “I deeply thank many people who have supported so that students in the region can focus on their studies despite difficult circumstances,” and added, “The district will do its best to help our students grow into outstanding talents.”
Established 20 years ago this year, the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation has been carrying out various scholarship projects such as talent donation programs and full tuition support with the goal of nurturing local talent.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Seoul, attended the MG Saemaeul Geumgo Onnuri Gift Certificate Delivery Ceremony at 10 AM on the 27th.
This delivery ceremony was held because MG Saemaeul Geumgo expressed its intention to donate Onnuri gift certificates (approximately 9.2 million KRW) to encourage medical staff who are devoted on the front lines to overcome COVID-19.
The district plans to distribute the received gift certificates to medical staff working on-site, including those involved in COVID-19 vaccination efforts in the region.
The delivery ceremony proceeded with the gift certificate handover and commemorative photo session, attended by Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, and Jeong Cheon-deuk, Chairman of MG Saemaeul Geumgo, among others.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu said, “This will be a warm gift to medical staff exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” and expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you for always taking the lead in the culture of sharing that cares for neighbors in need.”
