Beautiful Chrysanthemum Festival Unfolds on the Theme of 'Coexistence of Earth and Humans'

Hampyeong Expo Park and Eup Downtown Area... From November 5 to 21

[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The representative festival of Jeonnam, the ‘2021 Korea Chrysanthemum Festival,’ will be held for 17 days from the 5th to the 21st of next month at Hampyeong Expo Park and the Hampyeong-eup downtown area under the theme of ‘Coexistence of Earth and Humans,’ showcasing a beautiful chrysanthemum feast.

According to Hampyeong County on the 27th, since this year’s Korea Chrysanthemum Festival is held under the theme of ‘Coexistence of Earth and Humans,’ it combines the themes of ‘chrysanthemum’ and ‘environment’ to provide visitors with abundant sights and enjoyable activities.

At the main festival site, Hampyeong Expo Park, sculptures such as a globe hand model, sea turtles and fish, and a dream tree of hope, along with over 600 nighttime landscape sculptures, are installed to offer enjoyable sights for people of all ages.

A bonsai exhibition hall showcasing the charm of chrysanthemums through artworks and a Korea Chrysanthemum Club exhibition hall are also separately prepared, and a media art (media facade) exhibition guiding visitors into the world of light is ready.

In particular, the county is making thorough preparations to transform the Korea Chrysanthemum Festival, which was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, into a ‘safe and secure festival’ as it welcomes visitors again after a long time.

First, enhanced quarantine rules will be applied to prevent COVID-19. An ‘Event Thru’ gate will be installed at the entrance to perform full-body disinfection for all entrants.

The festival operation will also expand online methods to minimize face-to-face contact. Visitors who cannot come to the festival site can enjoy the opening ceremony and the various chrysanthemum sculptures exhibited at the festival through YouTube.

Additionally, to disperse tourists who tend to flock only to the festival site, the festival stage, which was previously held only at Hampyeong Expo Park, has been expanded to surrounding tourist spots such as the downtown area.

An Infiorata (decorating the street with flowers) street has been created in the downtown area, and various events such as peddler recreation and specialty product auctions will be held outside the festival site as well.

Especially, since the festival implements a ‘designated day attendance system for residents’ to comply with social distancing, residents planning to visit the festival site must check in advance the days their respective eup/myeon areas are allowed entry.

Moreover, from ‘Hampyeong Cheonjigil,’ promoted by Hampyeong County to become a stay-type tourist destination, to the ‘Hampyeong Drive-in Theater,’ various enjoyable activities that can satisfy the five senses of tourists visiting Hampyeong during this Korea Chrysanthemum Festival are prepared.

County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “All employees of Hampyeong County have put their heads together and held endless meetings to prepare for hosting the Korea Chrysanthemum Festival as a safe and secure festival,” and added, “I hope everyone enjoys the first autumn of the with-COVID era by walking with family, friends, and lovers through the fields of Hampyeong filled with colorful chrysanthemum flowers.”
