[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Jang Yongjun, known as rapper 'Noel' and son of People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, who is accused of refusing a breathalyzer test and assaulting police officers during his probation period, has been indicted while in custody.
On the 27th, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Park Kyuhyung) announced that Jang was indicted in custody on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (refusal to take a breathalyzer test and driving without a license), obstruction of official duties, and injury.
Jang is accused of causing a minor collision while driving a Mercedes-Benz at an intersection in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, around 10:30 p.m. on the 18th of last month, refusing to comply with a breathalyzer test request, and headbutting a police officer. In a statement, he said, "I will accept the punishment for my wrongdoing," and "I will forgo the detention hearing with a repentant heart."
Jang was previously indicted in June last year on charges including drunk driving and 'driver substitution,' and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation. In April of this year, he was also sent to the prosecution for assaulting a pedestrian in Busan. If Jang receives a prison sentence of more than a jail term for the current charges of refusal to take a breathalyzer test and driving without a license, the probation previously imposed will be revoked.
