Jangseong-gun 'Mugunghwa Park' Opens... Largest Scale in Korea

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, held an opening ceremony for the ‘Jangseong Mugunghwa Park,’ created in collaboration with Doosan Group, on the 27th.

According to the county on the 27th, about 40 officials, including County Governor Yoo Doo-seok and former Doosan Group Chairman Park Yong-sung, attended the event.

The park is located on the lawn yard of Jangseong Park in the center of Jangseong-eup downtown, with 11,000 Mugunghwa plants of 46 varieties planted on a 9,500㎡ site.

It also features a variety garden composed of 100 types of Mugunghwa.

Among the approximately 200 species of Mugunghwa distributed worldwide, about 100 species are classified as native, and visitors to the Mugunghwa Park can see all kinds of native Mugunghwa.

It is the largest Mugunghwa park in the country created through public-private collaboration.

The county provided the land and carried out foundational work such as drainage facilities, while Doosan Group prepared the Mugunghwa saplings and was responsible for planting, actively engaging in social contribution activities to promote Mugunghwa.

The Mugunghwa hill created in Gungjeong-dong also won the grand prize in the national flower Mugunghwa attraction contest hosted by the Korea Forest Service.

The county is famous for its ‘flowers,’ and the autumn Yellow Flower Festival held along the Hwangryong River has been a great success, recording one million visitors for three consecutive years.

Additionally, the creation of ‘guerrilla gardens,’ where local residents cultivate flower beds in empty village spaces, has become a ‘local culture,’ and recently, the county has promoted the ‘One Store, One Flowerpot’ campaign with residents to create distinctive flower streets throughout the town.

County Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “Jangseong is a patriotic region that has inherited the spirit of loving the country,” and added, “I am confident that through Mugunghwa Park, the value of patriotism and veterans’ honor can be further elevated in daily life.”

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the county was selected as the ‘2022 Mugunghwa Hill Creation Project Site’ by the Korea Forest Service, successfully securing 100 million won in project funds.
