Choo Mi-ae Meets Lee Jae-myung, Accepts Honorary Chief Campaign Chair Position: "I Will Do My Best to Support" (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 27th, former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae met with Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, and promised to cooperate for the reestablishment of the administration. Former Minister Chu accepted the honorary chief campaign committee chair position proposed by candidate Lee.

On the same day, candidate Lee held a luncheon meeting with former Minister Chu at a restaurant near Yeouido, Seoul, to discuss the formation of an integrated campaign committee. During the luncheon, which lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes, former Minister Chu agreed to take on the honorary chief campaign committee chair position as proposed by candidate Lee, according to Park Chan-dae, chief spokesperson for candidate Lee, and Kang Hee-yong, general director of former Minister Chu’s campaign headquarters.

Director Kang stated, "The two (Lee Jae-myung and Chu Mi-ae) agreed to unite for the establishment of the fourth democratic government, the success of the Moon Jae-in administration, and the reestablishment of the administration. Candidate Lee made a polite request for this, and after sufficient consultation and discussion, former Minister Chu decided to take on the honorary chief campaign committee chair position." He added, "Originally, there were proposals for (campaign committee) standing advisor and co-chief campaign committee chair positions, but former Minister Chu said she would not refuse any position and would provide practical help. Candidate Lee felt it would be inappropriate to appoint her as co-chief campaign committee chair, so he proposed the honorary chief campaign committee chair position, which she accepted at this meeting."

In addition to the honorary chief campaign committee chair position, former Minister Chu will also serve as the chair of the Social Great Transformation Committee directly under candidate Lee. Spokesperson Park described the atmosphere at the luncheon as "very good and harmonious," adding, "They will combine chemically like siblings Chu and Lee, and I believe they will do well in creating a dream team."

Before the luncheon, former Minister Chu told candidate Lee, "The upcoming world, the new world, also called the great transformation, makes me think that this election poses the task of how to lay the foundation to navigate it. We must strive not to be hindered by reform resistance forces, but it seems to be a time to have a broader vision that transcends that. Therefore, I think your role is extremely important," urging him.

In response, candidate Lee said, "I am worried whether I can handle it all," and requested, "Please help me a lot, former Minister Chu." He continued, "During the primary, candidate Park Yong-jin said many things, but the most important was 'to use the playing field widely.' We will decide who to select as the number one striker, the representative player for all of us, since they are all players. We will act according to the will of the representative players supported by the people," he emphasized.
