"In politics, such incidents are even deliberately created"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Broadcaster Kim Eo-jun commented on People Power Party presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol's plan to visit Gwangju following his controversial remarks defending former President Jeon Du-hwan, saying, "Isn't he deliberately going to get eggs thrown at him?"
On the 27th, Kim said on TBS Radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory,' "If the citizens of Gwangju throw eggs, I would be grateful; he is going to get eggs thrown at him," pointing out the situation.
Earlier, on the 19th, at the People Power Party's Haeundae Gap branch meeting in Busan, candidate Yoon said, "Although former President Jeon Du-hwan made mistakes, many say that except for the military coup and the May 18 incident, his politics were good," adding, "There are quite a few people in Honam who say that," which drew strong criticism both inside and outside the party.
Kim Jae-won, a senior member of the People Power Party who appeared on the broadcast hosted by Kim that day, explained, "This issue (Yoon's remarks defending Jeon Du-hwan) was made regardless of the Gwangju issue, but it again touched on the sentiments of Gwangju citizens and the Honam region," adding, "He intends to sincerely explain his thoughts, seek understanding, and apologize."
In response, Kim said, "I don't think the citizens of Gwangju would deliberately throw eggs, but in politics, such incidents are sometimes deliberately created," adding, "If such an event happens, I will consider it as intentional."
Meanwhile, it has been reported that candidate Yoon plans to visit Gwangju between the 1st and 4th of next month.
