Bodyfriend Registers Patent for Bed Technology That Adjusts Tilt by Detecting User

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Bodyfriend (CEO Park Sang-hyun) announced on the 27th that it has registered a patent for an electric bed technology that detects users' movements to prevent snoring.

The core of this patent is that it detects the snoring sounds and movements of users while sleeping and moves the bed accordingly. The principle is to identify the snoring user through sound detection sensors and movement detection sensors installed on the bed and adjust the bed's tilt.

Based on the user information obtained through the sensors, it can also predict the cause of snoring and respond appropriately. If the user's uvula or tongue is the cause of snoring, the part of the bed where the user's head is located is raised, and if the epiglottis is the cause, it provides information such as advising the user to visit a medical institution.

Additionally, when detecting movements, if the user sleeps face down or on their side, the part of the bed where the user's head is located is not raised; if the user sleeps in a proper posture, it automatically adjusts to raise the head area.

This patent is meaningful in that it prevents snoring, which causes sleep breathing disorders, and helps users achieve stable sleep. Bodyfriend plans to apply this patented technology to its bed brand 'La Cloud.'

As of October this year, Bodyfriend has filed 1,124 intellectual property rights including domestic patents, utility models, and designs, of which 456 have been registered. A Bodyfriend official said, "Through three major integrated research organizations?Technology Research Institute, Design Research Institute, and Medical R&D Center?we have invested about 74 billion KRW in the research and development of massage chairs over the past five years, focusing on healthcare technology development," and added, "We plan to invest more than 100 billion KRW in research and development over the next five years to widen the technology gap with competitors by more than 20 years."
