[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Youngone Outdoor announced on the 27th that Chairman Sung Ki-hak donated 100 million KRW to Sookmyung Women's University as a development fund.
Chairman Sung, who has a special affection for nurturing talent in the Korean fashion industry, said, "I hope this will help students, the future leaders, grow into creative talents with a global mindset and capabilities, even if just a little." He added, "Through industry-academic cooperation with Sookmyung Women's University, we are promoting the development of the domestic apparel industry, and we plan to continue collaboration on resource recycling activities such as eco-friendly product development in line with the expansion of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance)-based management."
Jang Yoon-geum, President of Sookmyung Women's University, expressed gratitude to Chairman Sung by presenting him with a plaque, saying, "We thank Chairman Sung Ki-hak for supporting Sookmyung Women's University’s Department of Clothing and Textiles students by providing opportunities to participate in various design development projects and gain practical experience, and for being an incubator platform for nurturing outstanding talent in the fashion design field."
Youngone Outdoor launched The North Face in Korea in 1997 and has contributed to the successful hosting of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and the development of the domestic sports outdoor industry through its sponsorship activities as an official partner of the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the Department of Clothing and Textiles at Sookmyung Women's University, led by Professor Kim Young-sun, has been running various programs for 14 years in collaboration with Youngone Trading, an affiliate of Youngone Outdoor, including the development project of licensed products for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and an eco-friendly upcycling graduation exhibition.
