[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province held the 'Railroad Basic Plan and Urban Railroad Network Construction Plan Establishment Research Service Kick-off Meeting' and has embarked on creating a future blueprint for Gyeonggi railroads.

According to the province on the 27th, the main research services include analysis of current traffic conditions and future outlook, presentation of long-term vision and strategies for the Gyeonggi railroad network (high-speed, general, metropolitan, and urban railroads), establishment of urban railroad network construction plans and financing methods, and economic and financial feasibility evaluations for each route.

In particular, the plan will review and incorporate ▲ routes proposed by cities and counties ▲ metropolitan express railroad (GTX) and high-speed/general railroad connection routes ▲ unconnected sections of the circular railroad network ▲ routes in preparation for improved inter-Korean relations (utilizing existing railroad networks and new routes).

Among these, the 'Railroad Basic Plan' is a non-statutory plan established every 10 years, while the 'Urban Railroad Network Construction Plan' is a statutory plan established every 10 years according to the Urban Railroad Act.

The province plans to use the railroad basic plan derived from this service as supporting data for proposing routes to be reflected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan (2026?2035)'.

Additionally, the 'Urban Railroad Network Construction Plan' will be submitted for approval to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in the second half of next year and will serve as the blueprint for urban railroad network construction within the province.

The research service will be carried out by the Gyeonggi Research Institute and others until May 2023.

Lee Gye-sam, Director of the Railroad, Port, and Logistics Bureau, stated, "We will fully collect and review diverse opinions through listening to and consulting with city and county officials and expert advice."
