"Growing University AI" SK Telecom Hosts 'AI Curriculum Live'

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] SK Telecom announced on the 27th that it held an online event called ‘SKT AI Curriculum Live,’ providing lectures and hands-on experiences on advanced ICT technologies for domestic university students and faculty members.

On the afternoon of the 26th, SK Telecom began with an online tour of the Tech Gallery at its Pangyo office technology exhibition hall, followed by a special lecture and mentoring session featuring Q&A with an executive in charge of advanced technologies at SK Telecom. Professors and students from universities across the country participated online, showing great interest.

This event was part of the ‘SKT AI Curriculum,’ which offers video lectures containing AI technology theory and practical know-how to domestic universities. It overcame the limitations of video lectures where direct interaction with instructors is not possible, allowing participants to ask questions directly and hear vivid practical experiences from experts.

During the online tour, SK Telecom introduced various technology cases exhibited in the Tech Gallery, including its self-developed AI semiconductor ‘Sapeon,’ AI camera-based real-time video and image analysis services, AI automation platform ‘MetaRunner,’ and ‘Supernova,’ which enhances the quality of old videos. Following this, Jongmin Lee, Head of SK Telecom T3K Innovation CO (Company Head), gave a lecture on various foundational technologies and service cases centered on 5G and AI, the growth engines of the 4th Industrial Revolution era.

In the Q&A session after the lecture, based on real-time questions from participating students, Jongmin Lee explained industry trends and offered advice for university students considering employment at ICT companies. Drawing on his extensive practical experience and numerous technology patents, he communicated actively with the students.

SK Telecom plans to strengthen exchanges with domestic universities in various forms, including ‘AI Curriculum Live.’ Using the metaverse service ‘ifland,’ it will provide counseling for university (graduate) students contemplating careers in the AI field and hold AI-related seminars to increase opportunities for mutual exchange of capabilities between SK Telecom and universities.

Shin Sang-gyu, Head of SK Telecom Corporate Culture Center, said, “We are actively engaging with domestic universities to support the nurturing of future AI talent in Korea,” adding, “We will continue to develop content to help campus students understand the ICT industry and set clear goals.”
