[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom will not attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
On the 26th (local time), the BBC reported, citing a statement from Buckingham Palace, that the Queen has decided not to attend the COP26 reception held in Glasgow on the 1st of next month.
Buckingham Palace stated that this decision follows the doctor's advice to rest.
Instead, the Queen will deliver a recorded message.
The 95-year-old Queen canceled her 1-night, 2-day visit to Northern Ireland on the 20th and spent a night hospitalized in a London city hospital.
Authorities said it was not related to COVID-19 but did not disclose the specific reason for the Queen's hospitalization or her health condition.
On the 26th, she resumed external schedules after discharge, including a virtual meeting with Kim Geon, South Korea's ambassador to the UK, receiving credentials and conversing for about 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, major world leaders confirmed to be absent from COP26 so far include Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, along with the Queen.
