[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A man in his 20s who decided to make an extreme choice on the Incheon Bridge safely returned to his family after a police chase.
According to the Incheon Police Agency on the 26th, the mother of a man in his 20s, Mr. A, who called the Airport Police Substation of the Jungbu Police Station on the afternoon of the 9th of last month, said, "My son said he was struggling and couldn't live anymore," and "He said he was on the Incheon Bridge and then the call was cut off. Please help," requesting rescue.
Upon receiving the report, the police immediately began tracking and found Mr. A's vehicle on the Incheon Bridge within about 10 minutes. Mr. A briefly stopped his car on the shoulder in response to the police's request to stop, but despite the police's persuasion, he started driving again.
The police then immediately followed behind Mr. A's vehicle and chased him for an hour, going back and forth on the Incheon Bridge, until Mr. A finally stopped his car.
When the police opened the car door, Mr. A burst into tears, and the police comforted him and sent him home.
Meanwhile, although the Incheon Bridge, the longest bridge in Korea, has seen a series of fall accidents this year, no substantial preventive measures have been established for over 10 years. From May to last month, there have been seven suspected fall accidents on the Incheon Bridge.
