Policy Debate by Song Hyeong-il, Gwangju City Council Member
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A forum was held to explore solutions to the serious parking shortage, which can cause conflicts between neighbors, through the expansion of a shared culture of idle space.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Council on the 26th, Councilor Song Hyung-il of Gwangju held a policy forum to explore ways to expand the "parking sharing system" utilizing school facilities and others.
Councilor Song explained the background of the event, saying, "It was held to discuss ways to expand the 'parking sharing system' using school facilities to alleviate the increasingly severe parking shortage caused by the continuous increase in automobiles, and furthermore to gather wisdom for spreading the sharing culture."
Attendees including Choi Woo-ram, Research Fellow at the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute, and Professor Choi Dong-ho of Gwangju University, shared their agreement on the necessity of expanding the parking sharing system through presentations and discussions.
Various opinions were also presented, such as sharing private parking lots, opening school facilities, expanding the parking sharing budget and institutional security, and spreading the sharing culture.
Councilor Song said, "I believe that school facilities should actively participate in sharing parking spaces within the scope that does not interfere with student safety and education, rather than being closed spaces," and added, "We need to gather citizens' wisdom for spreading and practicing the sharing culture for solving community problems and fostering a local community that lives together."
