Won Hee-ryong vs Lee Jae-myung, Close Race in Gangwon and Jeju Regions with Won Leading by 4% Compared to Last Week

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Won Hee-ryong, a presidential pre-candidate from the People Power Party and former governor of Jeju Province, was announced to be leading within the margin of error in a head-to-head poll against Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, with his support rate rising by 4% last week in the Gangwon and Jeju regions.

According to a poll commissioned by a media outlet to Polling Integrity Co., Ltd., in the head-to-head matchups between People Power Party pre-candidates and Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, Hong Joon-pyo received 50.9% to Lee’s 35.3%, Yoon Seok-youl 45.9% to Lee’s 39.1%, Won Hee-ryong 44.4% to Lee’s 39.3%, and Yoo Seung-min 37.4% to Lee’s 39.9%. Except for Yoo Seung-min, the other three pre-candidates were shown to be leading over Lee Jae-myung.

In particular, Won Hee-ryong was trailing Lee Jae-myung by 4% last week in the Gangwon and Jeju regions where he previously served as governor (Won 36.1%, Lee 40.5%), but in the poll released today, Won led within the margin of error in Gangwon and Jeju (Won 40.9%, Lee 37.8%).

Additionally, in the Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk regions, Won Hee-ryong (24.9%) showed more competitiveness than Yoon Seok-youl (21%) in the head-to-head matchups against Lee Jae-myung.

Regarding this trend, Mr. Kang (57), a representative of Won Hee-ryong’s fan club Friends One, analyzed, “His outstanding performance as the top instructor on the Daejangdong issue created the perception that he is the only alternative for the right-wing, and key figures in the Jeju region regrouped to promote him nationwide, contributing to the formation of public opinion in Jeju and across the country.”

Furthermore, Kang Choong-ryong, a member of the Jeju Provincial Council from the People Power Party, explained, “Although there were many remarks that Won Hee-ryong was a blue-chip candidate, his low recognition resulted in low support rates. However, after entering the top four, his capabilities were demonstrated and verified through debates.”

Meanwhile, this survey was conducted nationwide among male and female voters from the 22nd to 23rd using a structured questionnaire via 100% wireless ARS, with a sampling error of ±3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
