[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Korean Air announced on the 26th that it has signed a business agreement with Mapo-gu to create the ‘Skypass Forest’.
Korean Air explained that CEO Woo Ki-hong and Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun recently held a business agreement ceremony to establish the Korean Air ‘Skypass Forest’ within Mapo-gu’s ‘Gyeongui Line Linear Forest.’ The ‘Gyeongui Line Linear Forest,’ which connects the fragmented Gyeongui Line site in Mapo-gu with forest trails to provide a pleasant urban environment, is scheduled to begin construction of the third section (connecting Mapo-gu Jung-dong Gajwa Station to DMC Station) next year.
Korean Air will create the ‘Skypass Forest’ together with Skypass members. Through Korean Air’s ‘Green Skypass’ project, when Skypass members use mileage to purchase bonus tickets or logo products, Korean Air will establish a fund proportional to the purchase amount.
As interest in the environment in daily life has increased due to climate warming and fine dust, and consumers increasingly desire consumption that reflects eco-friendly values and messages, Korean Air has produced and launched eco-friendly mileage products using retired aircraft. In collaboration with the eco-friendly upcycling brand ‘project 1907,’ Korean Air has also released products made from Platex fabric recycled from discarded PET bottles, such as backpacks, eco shoulder bags, and pouches, in the Korean Air Mileage Mall, expanding consumer choices.
Additionally, to actively respond to climate change, Korean Air has started cooperation with SK Energy to introduce carbon-neutral aviation fuel, and in July, it issued ESG bonds to additionally acquire the eco-friendly Boeing 787-10, becoming the first domestic airline to do so.
Korean Air stated, "We will continue to develop various ways to contribute to the environment linked to Skypass members’ mileage usage, and actively practice ESG management to sustain efforts in carbon reduction and climate crisis response."
