LG Uplus to Host Sookmyung Women's University 'Cheongpaje' Festival in Metaverse Next Month

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Sookmyung Women's University's festival, 'Cheongpaje,' will be held in Sookmyung Women's University's exclusive metaverse (extended virtual world) space, 'Snowverse.'

LG Uplus announced on the 26th that it signed a business agreement with MammothSix, Shinhan Bank, and Sookmyung Women's University to implement the Sookmyung Women's University Cheongpaje, which will be held for three days starting from the 3rd of next month, in the metaverse space Snowverse, and to provide metaverse campus services to Sookmyung Women's University students.

LG Uplus built Sookmyung Women's University's 1st campus in the metaverse space for this Cheongpaje. Based on the opinions of the Sookmyung Women's University Student Council, the metaverse will showcase festival contents desired by students, including ▲festival opening ceremony ▲avatar-to-avatar chatting ▲festival mission completion ▲operation of a props shop.

During the festival period, LG Uplus will install a 'U+ Charging Station' where avatars visiting will receive a gift of 1GB data usage rights (for U+ mobile subscribers), providing data charging, and 'Mind Charging,' where the character 'MOONO' cheers students tired from COVID-19 and studies. LG Uplus is conducting the 'Plnyangi Sponsorship Project' with stray cat care clubs from 14 universities nationwide, including Sookmyung Women's University, and plans to deliver the donations collected during this Cheongpaje to the stray cat care clubs.

This metaverse space is implemented based on the social metaverse platform 'Galaxyty' developed by MammothSix. MammothSix plans to create the Sookmyung Women's University campus as a metaverse space by utilizing Galaxyty's avatar design and items, avatar creation, user authentication, and chat functions.

Sookmyung Women's University plans to discover metaverse services and business models that can be used routinely on university campuses, promote industry-academia collaborative research, and develop and operate educational curricula. Additionally, it is considering implementing services in the metaverse space that link students' major textbooks, secondhand clothing trading, and nearby commercial districts. To this end, Shinhan Bank will provide payment infrastructure linking student IDs and accounts. Furthermore, through this business agreement, metaverse services and business models that can be routinely used on university campuses will be discovered.

Jang Yoon-geum, president of Sookmyung Women's University, said, "Through the Sookmyung Metaverse Campus, we hope that students will access school news, interact with each other, and freely continue campus activities in the post-COVID era," adding, "We expect Snowverse to present a new direction for digital innovation, such as online counseling with professors and VR lectures."
