[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] A coup has reportedly occurred in Sudan, North Africa.
Major foreign media outlets cited political sources on the 25th, reporting, "Key ministers and ruling party leaders in Sudan are being detained."
According to reports, in the capital Khartoum, former minister and prime minister's advisor Faisal Mohamed Salih and Mohamed al-Faki Suleiman, spokesperson for the Sovereignty Council?a joint governing body involving the Sudanese military and opposition?have been captured.
Khartoum Airport is currently closed, and internet access in the capital Khartoum has reportedly been cut off.
Sudan ousted the 30-year dictator former President Omar al-Bashir in a military coup in April 2019. Since then, the military and opposition have formed a 'Sovereignty Council,' but turmoil has continued.
