[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Blitzway, a character figure specialist manufacturer, announced on the 25th that it will produce a figure of the protagonist ‘Paul (Timoth?e Chalamet)’ from the movie ‘Dune’ in collaboration with Japan’s famous figure manufacturer ‘Prime 1 Studio’.
The ‘Paul’ figure will be produced as a 1/4 scale statue (fixed figure). It is scheduled to be sold worldwide through a simultaneous pre-order system in early November. Blitzway plans to unveil the related prototype figure at the world’s largest figure exhibition, the ‘2022 Beijing Wonder Festival’.
The recently released SF blockbuster ‘Dune’ on the 20th is based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The novel ‘Dune’ is a bestseller with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. It won both the ‘Hugo Award for Best Novel’ and the ‘Nebula Award’ simultaneously, which are considered the Nobel Prizes of the SF world. It is regarded as a representative work that inspired many popular culture works such as the movie ‘Star Wars’, ‘Alien’, the drama ‘Game of Thrones’, and the game ‘StarCraft’.
The movie depicts the great journey of the legendary messiah ‘Paul’, born with the destiny to ascend to the throne of the entire universe, set on the desert planet Arakis, ‘Dune’. It features grand and beautiful visuals portraying the war between the protagonist ‘Paul’ and the forces of evil over the life-sustaining resource, Spice.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, who also directed ‘Blade Runner 2049’, the film smoothly presents the epic of ‘Dune’. The movie has been praised for captivating even those who have not read the original work, and high popularity is expected for character products such as figures utilizing the related IP.
Since its domestic release, the movie ‘Dune’ attracted 275,959 viewers over the weekend (22nd?24th), reaching a cumulative audience of 383,173, and achieved an opening weekend box office of 40.1 million dollars in North America.
A Blitzway official explained, “The Paul figure being produced this time perfectly reproduces the Fremen stillsuit, an essential item for desert survival in the story,” adding, “The most attractive feature is the ability to interchange the movie’s biggest symbol, the ‘Crysknife’, along with various weapons.”
Meanwhile, Blitzway has passed the preliminary review for listing on KOSDAQ and is promoting a merger with ‘Daishin Balance No.9 SPAC’. Daishin Balance No.9 SPAC plans to submit agenda items such as merger approval resolution, articles of incorporation amendments, and appointment of directors and auditors at the extraordinary general meeting scheduled for November 5.
