[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] A man in his 40s has been indicted on charges of sending threatening emails to Rep. Yoon Young-chan, who was affiliated with former party leader Lee Nak-yeon's camp during the Democratic Party's presidential primary.

According to the prosecution on the 25th, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jo Yong-hoo) recently arrested and indicted Mr. A, a man in his 40s, on charges of threats.

Mr. A is accused of sending an email containing threatening language to Rep. Yoon on August 5 of this year, targeting Yoon's family and female staff members at his office. At the time, Rep. Yoon, who was serving as the political affairs chief of former leader Lee's camp, was also pressured to step down from the camp.

The email included statements such as, "This election will be won by Governor Lee Jae-myung of Gyeonggi Province, and then, as Governor Lee has repeatedly said in private, Moon Jae-in and all those around him will go to prison. Will you spend the rest of your life in prison together?"

It also contained threats to kidnap and sexually assault not only Rep. Yoon's family but also female staff members, claiming to have tracked their homes and movements. Rep. Yoon's side requested the police to investigate and punish the sender of the email.
