Daedong Hospital Selected as an Excellent Institution for Smoking Cessation Treatment Cooperation by National Health Insurance Service for 4 Consecutive Times

Daedong Hospital Selected as an Excellent Institution for Smoking Cessation Treatment Cooperation by National Health Insurance Service for 4 Consecutive Times Daedong Hospital has been selected as an excellent institution for smoking cessation treatment cooperation by the National Health Insurance Service for the fourth consecutive time.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The National Health Insurance Service has selected Daedong Hospital as an excellent institution for smoking cessation treatment cooperation and awarded the 2021 certificate. Additionally, a plaque was presented to institutions that have been selected as excellent institutions for four consecutive times.

The excellent institutions for smoking cessation treatment cooperation are selected by evaluating participating institutions in the smoking cessation treatment program implemented by the Service, based on the number of participant registrations and program completions, with the highest total scores chosen.

The smoking cessation treatment program, conducted for 8 to a maximum of 12 weeks through medication and medical staff consultations, requires patients to bear the cost up to two times, after which it is completely free.

Also, if all smoking cessation programs are completed, the patient is reimbursed for the costs they bore, making the smoking cessation treatment less burdensome.

Cigarette smoke contains at least 70 carcinogens and thousands of toxic chemicals, nicotine, carbon monoxide, etc., which cause tissue damage and inflammatory responses in the body, leading to decreased immunity and vitality.

Smoking creates an environment favorable for virus activity, increasing the likelihood of respiratory infections compared to non-smokers, and is a cause of various diseases such as lung cancer, arteriosclerosis, cerebrovascular, and cardiovascular diseases.

Kim Yoon-mi, head of Family Medicine at Daedong Hospital, said, “Nicotine, the main component of cigarettes, causes addiction and contains many carcinogens that can cause various adult diseases. If quitting smoking on your own is difficult, it is advisable to visit a smoking cessation clinic to receive help such as smoking cessation medication, nicotine replacement therapy prescriptions, and lifestyle management.”

Dr. Kim emphasized, “In the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, smoking together and talking or spitting can cause droplet infection through saliva droplets, so it is necessary to start quitting smoking as soon as possible.”
