Ministry of the Interior and Safety Revises 'Public Data Management Guidelines' to Quickly Respond to Policy Environment Changes

Revision demands due to technological changes are quickly reflected in the practical materials

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 25th that it will revise the Public Data Management Guidelines, which stipulate matters related to the management of public data by public institutions under the Public Data Act, and implement them from the 26th.

Until now, the Public Data Management Guidelines were in the form of a manual covering case examples and explanations. Through this revision, the guidelines have been codified mainly around the obligations that public institutions must follow, while the examples and explanations have been reorganized into the "Public Data Provision and Management Practical Manual" for public institution staff to refer to, allowing for frequent updates as needed.

The revised management guidelines consist of a total of 6 chapters and 32 articles. They include basic principles of public data management, standards for each stage of public data provision and management, public data quality control, compliance with standards when providing public data, and prohibition of duplicate or similar services by the private sector within public institutions.

Additionally, improvements related to public data provision that have been discussed so far have been newly incorporated into the management guidelines. It is established as a basic principle that public data should be provided as source data, and that public institutions should strive to provide and preserve public data when integrating or abolishing information systems.

Seo Boram, Director of the Digital Government Bureau, said, "We expect that opening source data and consistent data disclosure will enable users to utilize public data stably in various ways," adding, "We will quickly reflect rapidly occurring technological changes in the practical manual to respond promptly to changes in the policy environment."
