[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] The police have closed the case with a decision of no charges regarding the family of the late university student Son Jeong-min (22), who was found dead five days after going missing at Seoul Hangang Park last April, suing his friend A. However, Son’s father, Son Hyun, repeatedly raised suspicions, stating that "clear evidence was found in my son's pants."
On the afternoon of the 24th, Son posted a blog entry titled "Returned Jeong-min," stating, "I plan to file an objection after reviewing the non-prosecution decision notice. Only then can it reach the prosecution."
Son said, "Last Friday, I received Jeong-min’s belongings from Seocho Police Station. While looking at the handover list, something caught my eye. It was the mask that had been in the pants pocket," adding, "When Jeong-min was found, there was no mask on his face, so I thought it might have floated away in the water, but it was neatly in the pants pocket. At first, I simply thought the mask was in the pocket. But on the way home, I thought deeply and realized it was very clear evidence of homicide."
He further explained, "What does it mean that the mask was in the pocket? Jeong-min, who always wore a mask at the rabbit hole and convenience store, would have carefully put the mask in his pants pocket when drinking. Then, he must have fallen asleep due to the alcohol," and continued, "Jeong-min fell without moving next to the tree where he had fallen asleep. Because he was put into the water by someone in that state, the mask remained in the pocket."
Additionally, Son expressed frustration, saying, "Even with so many circumstances indicating a crime, we are told there is no evidence of a crime," and added, "Now, instead of saying there is no evidence of a crime, they say there is insufficient evidence."
Meanwhile, on the 22nd, Seocho Police Station concluded after a four-month investigation into the family’s accusation against friend A for assault resulting in death and abandonment resulting in death that there was insufficient evidence and decided not to send the case to the prosecution.
