Gyeonggi Northern Region 'Gyooeseon' Detailed Design Begins... Service Resumption in 2024

Sequential Construction Orders Starting Next August... Diesel Railcar (RDC) 3-Car Trainset

Gyeonggi Northern Region 'Gyooeseon' Detailed Design Begins... Service Resumption in 2024 Suburban Line Route Map [Gyeonggi-do]

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The detailed design for the resumption of operations of the 'Gyooeseon' line, connecting Goyang Neunggok to Yangju Jangheung and Uijeongbu sections (total 32.1 km), will be fully underway in 2024.

According to Gyeonggi Province on the 24th, the Korea Rail Network Authority began the design of the roadbed and track necessary for the resumption of Gyooeseon operations on the 12th, and started the signal and communication design from the 14th. The ground survey company is currently being selected.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is investing 49.7 billion KRW, and the Korea Rail Network Authority is promoting detailed design and aging facility improvements. Each local government will bear operating losses and precise safety inspection costs for railway vehicles.

The detailed design cost of 4 billion KRW (national funds) has been reflected in this year's budget, with a schedule of 6 months for ground survey, 10 months for roadbed and track, and 12 months for signal and communication, aiming to complete by October next year.

The Korea Rail Network Authority plans to sequentially issue construction orders from August next year, complete facility improvements by the end of 2023, and resume operations from 2024.

The stops will be at six stations: Daegok, Wonreung, Ilyeong, Jangheung, Songchu, and Uijeongbu. The trains will be diesel multiple units (RDC) consisting of 3 cars per set. There will be 24 runs on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and 16 runs on weekends and holidays.

Previously, Gyooeseon opened in August 1963 and handled tourism, passenger, and freight transport, but operations were suspended in April 2004 due to low demand.

Lee Gye-sam, Director of the Railway, Port and Logistics Bureau, emphasized, "Gyooeseon is an important railway infrastructure to complete the circular railway network for balanced development of the metropolitan area and to connect GTX-A and C lines."
