Special Exhibition 'Dokdo Natural Protected Area' by Cultural Heritage Research Institute and Biological Resources Center

The Past to Future of Dokdo Reflected Through Maps, Specimens, and Images

Materials that shed new light on Dokdo's past, present, and future are gathered in one place. The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, the National Institute of Biological Resources, the Dokdo Museum, and the Northeast Asian History Foundation will jointly hold a special exhibition titled "Dokdo Natural Protection Area" from the 25th of this month to December 31st at the Daejeon Natural Monument Center's planned exhibition hall. Sixteen old maps, including the recently unveiled "Joseon Wanggukdo" from Spain, will offer a look back at the past, while specimens and detailed illustrations of flora and fauna living on Dokdo, such as the black pigeon, fairy pitta, and Eurasian sparrowhawk, will showcase the present. A Cultural Heritage Administration official explained, "This is the first time a stuffed black pigeon has been publicly displayed." The future of Dokdo is portrayed through eighteen videos covering aviation, promotion, and comics, along with various photographs. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the number of visitors allowed simultaneously is limited to seven. Starting from the 2nd of next month, the exhibition can also be viewed on the websites of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and the Natural Monument Center.
