Incheon City Participates in 'Metaverse Korea 2021'... Introducing the XR Metaverse Incheon Ieum Project

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City, the first local government to promote an XR metaverse construction project, will participate in the '1st Metaverse Korea' held at COEX, Seoul from the 26th to the 29th, introducing the 'XR Metaverse Incheon Ieum Project.'

This project involves building a 3D spatial map of 3.8 million square meters including Incheon International Airport, Gaehangjang, Songdo, and Bupyeong Station, and based on this, providing metaverse convenience services linked with 5G such as navigation, tourism, and shopping, as well as developing XR glasses for socially vulnerable groups such as the visually impaired.

The project is led by Incheon City and involves a consortium of 10 companies including Naver Labs and Incheon International Airport Corporation.

During the exhibition, the Incheon City promotional booth will operate the 'Incheon Craft' experience zone, designed to allow visitors to experience the city of Incheon where the past and future coexist in a virtual reality space with contrasting charms.

Additionally, the exhibition will introduce the digital twin expansion and data dam construction projects, along with expert lectures in the fields of metaverse and digital twin.

An official from Incheon City stated, "Participating in this exhibition is a great opportunity to review the latest trends in the metaverse industry and IT technology in the era of digital transformation and to check the current status of Incheon City's smart technology. As the first local government to promote an XR metaverse construction project, we will do our best to successfully complete the project."

Meanwhile, in May, Incheon City was selected for the '5G Content Flagship Project' public contest, promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Radio Promotion Association as part of the Digital New Deal project, and is pushing forward the 'XR Metaverse Incheon Ieum Project' with a total investment of 13.8 billion KRW, including 8 billion KRW in national funding.
