Receiving Ideas for 'Guro 1 Beonga'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is receiving proposals from residents through ‘Guro 1st Street’.

Guro-gu stated, “To expand residents’ opportunities to participate in district administration and to reflect diverse opinions in the policy decision-making process, we opened the online communication platform ‘Guro 1st Street’ last year,” adding, “We are currently receiving resident proposals for the second half of this year through the always-open ‘Guro 1st Street.’”

‘Guro 1st Street,’ operated with residents’ participation, is an online communication platform where policy proposals to solve local issues, discussions, voting, and implementation are all conducted within a single system.

Residents can directly submit proposals on local issues through Guro 1st Street or express their opinions by clicking the like button and leaving comments on submitted proposals. Proposals that receive support from more than 50 people are publicized through voting and discussions, after which the district office responds regarding the adoption and implementation plans of the proposals and discloses the process and results.

The proposals should be agenda items where residents and the district office can collaboratively solve local problems in areas closely related to daily life such as welfare, education, environment, and transportation. However, complaints or simple suggestions are excluded.

Guro-gu selects excellent proposals twice a year in July and December through written reviews by the Proposal Review Committee and reviews by related departments.

Those who wish to participate can do so through the district office website’s ‘Guro 1st Street.’

If selected as an excellent proposal, participants receive certificates and prize money according to the review results: 1,000,000 KRW for Gold Prize, 500,000 KRW for Silver Prize, 300,000 KRW for Bronze Prize, and 200,000 KRW for Encouragement Prize.

From November last year to June this year, Guro-gu received 124 proposals and held the first half Proposal Review Committee meeting in July for 19 of them. Based on the review criteria, three proposals were selected as excellent, including two Bronze Prizes and one Encouragement Prize.

A Guro-gu official said, “We expect to create a better Guro-gu by communicating and harmonizing with residents through ‘Guro 1st Street,’” and added, “We ask for the active participation and interest of residents.”
