[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man who was prosecuted for sexually harassing three unknown women on the street in one day was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
According to the court on the 24th, the Criminal Division 12 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Chief Judge Oh Sang-yong) sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted for forced sexual molestation, to one year in prison. He was also ordered to be restricted from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for five years.
Mr. A was prosecuted for forcibly sexually harassing three women passing by on the street while intoxicated in July last year. It was revealed that Mr. A had previously been sentenced to prison twice for sexual violence-related charges and served time.
The court stated, "Considering that the defendant had molested women he was not acquainted with before this incident and that the adult recidivism risk assessment tool (K-SORAS) indicates a high level, there is a possibility of reoffending." It continued, "This crime was committed by the defendant while intoxicated, molesting three women passing by on the same day, which is of a serious nature. The victims suffered considerable mental shock and discomfort, and the defendant is unforgivable; appropriate punishment is inevitable."
